15 Best Rank Tracker Tools to Monitor SEO Performance

With the help of a rank tracking tool, you can monitor your site’s performance and also improve it.

August 23, 2021
2 mins read

A rank tracker helps you monitor your website’s visibility on search engine results pages (SERPs). It tells you which keywords your pages rank for and their positions (1st, 3rd, 10th, and so on).

Why is it important to track rankings? Because most people only see the top-ranking pages on SERPs. In fact, only 9% of searchers make it to the bottom of the first page of Google search results, let alone the second page.

With the help of a rank tracking tool, you can monitor your site’s performance and also improve it. The higher your site ranks in search results, the more likely people will find and access it. As simple as that.

But with a gazillion different options, which rank tracker should you use?

What to look for in a rank tracker?

We’ve been testing software for years, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned, is that there’s no one-fits-all solution. Each rank tracker tool in this article is made to serve a specific audience with a specific goal in mind. So, it’s just a matter of finding the right one for your needs.

When exploring your options, keep these in mind. We promise you’ll have an easier time deciding.

1. Data accuracy: How accurate is the provided ranking data? Does it reflect the real search results? A quick tip: compare the data you see in the tool with manual SERP checks.

2. Update frequency: If you work with clients that demand daily reports, look for tools that update their data every day. But if you work for your site, weekly updates might be enough.

3. Reporting functionality: While DIY SEOs might find it irrelevant, the ability to create branded reports and send them automatically to clients (or stakeholders) is crucial for agencies and companies.

4. User interface: Is the tool easy to use and navigate? Can you find all the stuff you need quickly? You don’t want to waste hours of your time learning how to use the platform instead of actually using it.

5. Value to price: Compare the plans of different rank tracker tools and see which one gives you the best deal.

Best rank tracker tools in 2025

Without further ado, let’s explore some of the best SEO tools that will help you monitor (and improve) your site performance on SERPs.

1. Google Search Console

a

Best for: Accurate performance monitoring

Ranking updates: 1-4 days

Pricing: Free

Google Search Console (GSC) is a must-have tool for anyone who does search engine optimization. As a Google-owned product, this free tool gives you the most accurate SERP data on Google you’ll ever find.

The Performance dashboard shows four main metrics: total impressions, total clicks, average CTR, and average position. You can see your website’s overall performance or add a filter to track a specific query or page.

There are also options to filter the data by date range, search type (web, image, video, and news), country, and device. You can even compare two different datasets, such as mobile vs. desktop, web results v.s image results, and the last 3 months vs the previous period.

From the Queries report, you'll see all the phrases and terms visitors type into Google to discover your pages, which is super helpful for understanding their intent and identifying missed keyword opportunities.

Why it’s great:

  • Totally free forever: A great option for individual site owners, as well as small content and SEO teams.
  • Accurate ranking data: With the right website data, you can make the right business decisions.
  • Real user queries: Know the exact words and queries users enter into their browsers to find your content.

Drawbacks:

GSC only shows SERP data on Google, so you can’t see how your website performs on other search engines like Bing. The tool also lacks some of the more advanced functionality offered by premium rank trackers.

2. Semrush Position Tracking

b

Ranking updates: Daily

Pricing: $139.95/month – $499.95/month

Position Tracking isn't a standalone tool but rather one of the many features Semrush offers. If you're looking for a rank tracker that’s fully integrated with other crucial SEO tools, it can be a great choice.

This tool enables you to set up a rank-tracking project for your root domain (like apple.com) or a specific URL (like apple.com/blog/iphone-16). You can also monitor your site's performance on a specific search engine (Google, Bing, or Baidu), device, and location.

There are two ways to add the keywords you want to track. You can either type them manually or import data from a TXT or CSV file and third-party platforms like Google Analytics. After that, the tool will start gathering ranking data for every keyword every day of the week.

What's even better, you can add up to 20 competitors for a single Position Tracking project. This helps you see how your site stacks up against other domains competing for the same keywords.

Why it’s great:

  • Inclusive SEO capabilities: Beyond monitoring performance, you can conduct keyword research, examine other domains, and create SEO reports all in one location.
  • Strong competitor research: Track your competitors’ best-performing keywords and see which domains are linking to them so you can replicate their success.
  • Regular updates: Receive keyword reports delivered straight to your email inbox every week.

Drawbacks:

You have to purchase the full Semrush subscription to access Position Tracking, as there's no separate plan for it.

3. Ahrefs Rank Tracker

c

Best for: Long-term keyword monitoring

Ranking updates: Weekly (daily updates available as an add-on)

Pricing: $29/month – $1,499/month

At a glance, Ahrefs Rank Tracker is very similar to Semrush’s Position Tracking. It lets you track your keyword positions over time, monitor your competitors’ performance, and get weekly reports delivered to your email inbox.

However, the tool's integration with Google Search Console is a crucial feature that sets it apart from Semrush and numerous other rank trackers. By linking your GSC data to Rank Tracker, you can effortlessly keep an eye on everything that matters in a single dashboard.

The best part? Ahrefs gives you access to SERP data not available anywhere else, even on GSC itself. For instance, Rank Tracker shows keyword ranking data that’s older than 16 months (if you don’t know already, GSC only keeps data for the last 16 months).

You can even see data on clicks purposely hidden by Google to protect user privacy. With this information, you’ll know which specific user queries (even those Google doesn’t want you to know) are driving traffic to your pages.

Why it’s great:

  • All-in-one dashboard: Run, manage, and track your whole SEO workflow without switching between platforms.
  • Search Console integration: Connect your Google Search Console data and track everything from the Rank Tracker dashboard.
  • Rich SERP data: Learn more about your past keyword usage and click data beyond what Google shows you.

Drawbacks:

Similar to Semrush's Position Tracking, Ahrefs' Rank Tracker tool lacks a dedicated plan. That's why it's best to look elsewhere unless you think all the other aspects will be helpful for your company.

4. AccuRanker

d

Best for: Enterprise-level keyword tracking

Ranking updates: Daily and on-demand

Pricing: $129/month – $2,769/month

AccuRanker is perfect for big agencies dealing with a high volume of clients since you can add unlimited domains and track up to 1 million keywords. It's also possible to group those keywords by tags and folders, so data is organized and easily accessible whenever needed.

Do clients suddenly want quick updates? No need to worry about that either. Data is automatically updated every 24 hours, but you can manually refresh it to pull the latest updates whenever you want.

Google Grump is another unique (and cute) feature that deserves a mention. It lets you monitor daily SERP volatility based on four ratings: chilled, cautious, grumpy, and furious. If Google’s not in the mood, you can expect pretty significant ranking fluctuations happening that day.

Why it’s great:

  • On-demand updates: Always be ready whenever your boss or client asks for quick ranking updates.
  • Highly accurate tracking: Keep track of your daily ranking fluctuations to identify wins and fix potential issues.
  • Keyword organization: Group keywords by tags and folders to analyze the performance of specific content categories, product lines, or marketing campaigns.

Drawbacks:

AccuRanker only monitors the focus keyword of each article. In other words, you can’t track other terms, questions, and search queries the content ranks for.

5. Nozzle

e

Best for: Online reputation monitoring

Ranking updates: On demand

Pricing: $59/month – $5,999/month

Nozzle may not have the most accurate ranking data or the best performance tracking features. But it does one thing better than most tools: giving you a comprehensive look at your brand’s performance on search results.

The tool scans all social media profiles and third-party domains (like review sites and forums) mentioning your brand. This helps you spot unfavorable content pieces that appear for your branded keywords so you can take proactive steps to address them.

When it comes to the actual rank tracking capabilities, it gives tools like Semrush and Ahrefs a run for their money. Beyond just raw ranking data, Nozzle takes it up a notch by showing you a visual snapshot of the actual SERP.

This means you can see which web pages and SERP features (such as featured snippets, YouTube videos, and People Also Ask boxes) are pushing your content down the search results.

Why it’s great:

  • Brand reputation monitoring: See the overall sentiment about your brand (whether it’s positive, negative, or neutral) on forum threads and social media conversations.
  • Endless data availability: Nozzle keeps your data forever, so you can easily look back at your past success to inform your future campaigns.
  • Deep SERP analysis: See what pages and SERP features are driving user attention away from your content.

Drawbacks:

Setting up Nozzle is quite tricky, as there are loads of things to configure. Once you see the dashboard, you may also feel overwhelmed by all the different charts, graphs, and tables the tool presents.

6. SE Ranking

f

Best for: White-label reporting

Ranking updates: Daily

Pricing: $65/month – $259/month

If you’re running (or working for) a marketing agency, you should definitely check out SE Ranking. Its white-labeling feature allows you to use your domain name and create rank performance reports with your brand name, logo, and visual identity.

The Report Builder makes it easy to create SEO report templates for each of your customers. So you can save time on manual reporting and focus more on other important tasks.

After creating a report, share the read-only access to your clients and let them track the progress at their own pace. There’s also an option to send reports automatically at a specific time from your corporate email address.

In terms of rank tracking capabilities, SE Ranking offers an AI Overviews Tracker. It helps you track all the keywords your site ranks in AI snippets (if any), as well as monitor ranking fluctuations and spot patterns to improve your website visibility in AI Overviews.

Why it’s great:

  • White-label reporting: Use your own company name, logo, and colors to create branded SEO reports.
  • Report automation: Build reports faster with templates. Send those reports automatically to your clients.
  • AI Overviews tracking: Check whether any of your blog posts or pages are featured in Google’s AI Overviews.

Drawbacks:

SE Ranking has a restricted number of user seats available. Even the most expensive plan (Business) only allows 5 accounts. If you want to add more users, you have to pay an extra $20 per seat.

7. BrightLocal

g

Best for: Local rank tracking

Ranking updates: Weekly or monthly

Pricing: $39/month – $59/month

BrightLocal is a great rank-tracking tool for those running a local business. Or if you own an SEO agency that serves clients in specific areas.

You can pinpoint rankings down to the city or even postcode level to understand exactly how visible your business (or your client sites) are in Google's local search results, as well as Local Pack and Google Maps.

The Local Search Grid shows a map-based representation of every location users are searching from, along with potential competitors nearby. Knowing all this information helps you run targeted local ads or marketing campaigns more accurately.

There’s also a nice feature to automatically submit and update local citations on over 100 platforms like Google Business Profile, Bing, Apple Maps, Facebook, Yelp, TomTom, and YellowPages.

Why it’s great:

  • Local Rank Tracker: Know exactly what local keywords your website ranks for across different Google products (organic, Local Pack, and Maps).
  • Local Search Grid: Get a bird’s eye view of how your website ranks in different neighborhoods or service areas.
  • Local Citation Submission: Automatically submit and update your business listings on platforms like Yellow Pages and Google Business Profile.

Drawbacks:

Local Rank Tracker reports can only be updated once every week or month, so you won’t be able to track your site’s daily performance.

8. Mangools SERPWatcher

h

Best for: Beginner-level keyword tracking

Ranking updates: Daily

Pricing: $24.50/month – $64.50/month

Mangools offers a suite of easy-to-use tools for freshers looking for a career in SEO, new digital marketing interns who handle SEO all alone, and basically anyone wanting to learn the craft.

Want to find potential keywords? Use KWFinder. Looking to track your rankings? SERPWatcher is just what you need. Each tool has a clean and modern dashboard that strips away all the unnecessary stuff so you can focus on metrics that actually matter.

For instance, SERPWatcher simply shows you daily updates on keyword positions, along with their search volume and organic traffic potential. You can also track which keywords are making the biggest leaps in ranking, and which ones are dropping horribly.

In case you’re busy with other tasks, Mangools will automatically send email alerts to keep you informed of any significant SERP changes and ranking drops so you can quickly make the necessary adjustments.

Why it’s great:

  • User-friendly dashboard: Spend your time tracking website performance instead of learning how to navigate the platform.
  • Daily ranking updates: See how your website performed yesterday so you can adjust your strategy better for tomorrow.
  • Email alerts: Get notified instantly whenever Google is rolling out major updates that affect your rankings.

Drawbacks:

Mangools’ user-friendliness does come with a trade-off in functionality. It lacks some of the more advanced features and in-depth data analysis capabilities found in more complex tools like Ahrefs or Semrush.

9. SEOMonitor

i

Best for: Landing page conversion tracking

Ranking updates: Daily

Pricing: $107/month – $5,237/month

Many SEO experts say that traffic and rankings are just vanity metrics. Conversions and sales are the only things that matter.

Well, if you share the same belief and want to know precisely how much money each keyword brings, SEOMonitor is the perfect solution for that. With it, you can easily track the number of transactions and total revenue of each keyword you’ve added.

You’ll also see the user intent of each keyword (such as informational, commercial, and transactional) and special tags (like seasonal), so you can focus solely on targeting phrases with business potential.

In case you find low-performing landing pages, the tool allows you to check for cannibalization issues or content changes that lead to ranking drops.

Why it’s great:

  • Unique keyword metrics: Besides SERP positions, find out how much sales and revenue each keyword generates.
  • Content Tracker: See all the changes made to your landing pages that result in ranking drops and other performance issues.
  • AI monitoring: Track your brand mentions on AI Overviews and SearchGPT.

Drawbacks:

The interface can get laggy with all the different metrics and reports it shows.

10. Moz Pro STAT

j

Best for: Third-party app integrations

Ranking updates: Daily

Pricing: $720/month

Moz is one of the oldest (and also one of the best) SEO platforms out there, along with the likes of Ahrefs and Semrush. It has a wide range of free and paid tools for different purposes. STAT is one of the latter, and it’s built to help enterprises track their keyword performance.

So, what separates Moz Pro STAT from other similar tools? For the most part, it offers features you’d expect from a rank tracker, including position monitoring, competitor analysis, and automated alerts.

But one unique value we found when testing STAT is that it offers more third-party app integrations than any other tools in this list.

Yes, you do need some level of API knowledge. But once you figure it out, it can be super helpful for connecting different SEO tools.

Why it’s great:

  • Large database: Moz has been in the SEO industry for over two decades, so it has one of the richest keyword libraries out of any tools.
  • Moz API: Connect any app you want and build your SEO tools.
  • Great support: Running into trouble? Easily find the help you need, whether it’s through Moz’s internal documentation or community support.

Drawbacks:

Very expensive compared to other tools offering the same rank-tracking capabilities.

11. Advanced Web Ranking

k

Best for: Detailed keyword forecasting

Ranking updates: On demand

Pricing: $99/month – $4,480/month

Looking for detailed insights into your keyword performance? Few tools give you more in-depth reports than Advanced Web Ranking.

Apart from the usual stuff like SERP positions, search intent, difficulty, and expected traffic, the tool also shows you unique indicators, such as click share, visibility score, and share of voice.

These KPIs may not be important for most people. But if you're a seasoned SEO, they can help you evaluate the performance of your website more precisely.

Plus, Advanced Web Ranking shows you detailed forecasting reports (potential visits and conversions) of your keywords based on current trends so that you can set reasonable goals for your marketing initiatives.

Why it’s great:

  • Wide search engine options: Track your rankings across 4,000 different search engines, including Google, DuckDuckGo, Baidu, Naver, and Seznam.
  • In-depth analytics: Gain deeper insights into your website's visibility and market share on SERPs.
  • Keyword forecasting: Analyze how many visits and revenue each keyword will bring in the future.

Drawbacks:

Advanced Web Ranking is a great tool for in-depth keyword tracking and analysis, but that’s about it. It’s not really made for other SEO tasks like finding keyword ideas and putting together a content plan.

12. SEO PowerSuite

l

Best for: Unlimited keyword tracking

Ranking updates: On demand

Pricing: Free – $49.95/month

Every tool in this list is web-based (meaning you can access it directly from your browser). Bar one: SEO PowerSuite. It’s a desktop app you can download for free on your Windows, Mac, or Linux computer.

The great thing about it? Your data is safely stored in your local storage instead of cloud servers, so you have total control over it. The bad news? If your computer’s gone, so is your data.

Functionality-wise, it lets you track your keyword rankings across 550+ search engines, including Google and YouTube. You can also see what factors drive your pages to rank higher. Is it a great user experience? The number of backlinks? Or something else?

There are also tools for keyword research, keyword grouping, content optimization, and technical audits. So you'll have everything you’ll ever need in one app.

Why it’s great:

  • Rich databases: Get access to 216 million keywords, 400 million domains, and 6.5 trillion backlinks.
  • Unlimited tracking: Pro users have the privilege to track an unlimited amount of keywords and backlinks.
  • On-demand updates: Pull any ranking data you need at any time you want.

Drawbacks:

Unlike other rank-tracking tools, SEO PowerSuite consumes your computer space. It is not recommended for those of you who own an older laptop with limited storage.

13. SEO Tester Online

 m

Best for: Competitor analysis

Ranking updates: Weekly

Pricing: €18/month – €499/month

While the name SEO Tester Online might not sound convincing, it’s actually a pretty powerful rank tracker with lots of useful features.

The Rank Tracker tool works very much like Semrush’s Position Tracking. You create a project, add the keywords you want to track and monitor their rankings on mobile and desktop. You can also add up to 5 competitor sites to compare their results with yours.

And if your clients ask for regular updates, there’s a feature to send periodic email reports every week (on Monday) or every month (on 1the 1st of the month). Very handy to keep your clients happy.

Copy Metrics is another unique feature we like. It basically scans your competitor’s blog post and shows you what makes it successful. You’ll see a heatmap of potential keywords used throughout the content and whether those keywords are placed properly in the headings, among others.

Why it’s great:

  • Agency features: If you’re running an agency, you’ll love features like white-label reporting, workspace collaboration, and lead magnet creation.
  • All-in-one SEO tools: Besides tracking performance, you can also find long-tail keywords, perform on-page audits, and spy on your competitors’ SEO.
  • Copy Metrics: Don’t just track the rankings of your competitors. Find out what’s so great about their content, too.

Drawbacks:

SEO Tester Online updates ranking data weekly. So if Google rolls out a major update on Tuesday, for example, you won’t be able to see the impact on your site until the next Monday.

14. SerpRobot

n

Best for: Budget-friendly rank tracking

Ranking updates: On demand

Pricing: Free – $4,999/month

SerpRobot offers two ways to monitor your rankings. The first one is through its free SERP Checker tool, which allows you to add one domain and track up to 10 keywords on a specific region and device.

Want to perform competitor analysis? You can also add one competitor domain and track up to 3 of their keywords. Totally free of charge.

Alternatively, you can pay for the paid plan and let their SerpBots do the heavy lifting for you. One SerpBot costs $4.99 per month and gives you 75 keyword updates every day. If you manage 150 keywords, that means you’ll need two bots, and so on.

This pricing model works great if you’re just starting. You can easily hire more bots as your site grows and starts ranking for hundreds or even thousands of keywords.

Why it’s great:

  • Free version available: No budget? No problem. Start for free, and upgrade to the paid plan whenever you’re ready.
  • Accurate SERP tracking: SerpRobot scans the web to give you the most accurate ranking data in real-time.
  • Simple pricing: This tool charges per SerpBot you use. So you can easily calculate how many bots you need and prepare your budget upfront.

Drawbacks:

Apart from tracking SERP rankings, there’s not much you can do with this tool.

15. JaySearch

o

Best for: Quick setup and easy monitoring

Ranking updates: Daily

Pricing: Free – $29/month

JaySearch gathers information from Google Search Console to give you the most accurate ranking data available, which is updated daily.

The best part about JaySearch? You don’t need to manually add keywords or import data from third-party platforms. Simply add your site, and the tool will automatically show all the keywords it ranks for.

The free version is far more generous than any other tools we’ve found so far. You can create one project with up to 25 pages and up to 50 keywords and access your ranking history for 90 days.

You’ll also get 2 hours of free consultation per week with one of JaySearch’s SEO experts. If you’re a beginner, this is a nice feature to get your feet on the ground before you eventually start running on your own.

Why it’s great:

  • Generous free plan: Track up to 25 pages and 50 keywords completely free of charge.
  • Quick setup: Getting started is as easy as creating an account and entering your domain name. No need to add keywords manually.
  • Accurate data: GSC has the most accurate SERP data out of any SEO tools; there’s no doubt about it.

Drawbacks:

JaySearch’s biggest claim to fame is its GSC integration. So in a way, you can simply combine GSC with any other rank tracker tools in this list, and it will make little to no difference.

Other rank trackers that didn’t make the cut

Here are other rank trackers that we like but decided not to include in the final list for one reason or another. Perhaps they lack comprehensive monitoring features, or maybe they’re simply too niche-specific.

1. Semrush Rank Tracker for YouTube: A great tool to monitor the performance of your YouTube channel.

2. Raven Tools: An amazing solution to track both organic and paid keywords (PPC ads).

3. Seobase: An AI-powered platform that gives you ranking updates across different search engines, including Google, Bing, Yahoo, Yandex, and Baidu.

4. The HOTH: A free Google rank checker to see every keyword your site ranks for in the top 100.

Which rank-tracking tool should you pick?

The answer is… it depends. If you want an all-in-one SEO tool that gives you the ability to monitor rankings, spy on competitors, and get weekly updates on your keyword performance, Ahrefs and Semrush remain the top choices.

For those of you running an agency, you probably want to create white-label reports for your clients and stakeholders. In that case, there are a few options better than SE Ranking.

Regardless of the tool you choose, it’s best to combine it with Google Search Console. It gives you accurate ranking data straight from Google (while being completely free), so you can easily double-check your real website performance.

To monitor your site’s rankings, sign up for tools like Semrush’s Position Tracking, AccuRanker, and Ahrefs’ Rank Tracker. Then, add your keywords and start tracking their performance over time.

Most rank trackers are paid, with the exception of Google Search Console. But there are plenty of platforms that offer a free version, such as JaySearch, SerpRobot, and SEO PowerSuite.

Some SEO tools allow you to monitor keyword positions on Baidu, including Semrush, Advanced Web Ranking, and Seobase.

Ahrefs Rank Tracker is a paid tool that lets you monitor ranking progress over time and spy on your competitors’ SEO performance.

Yes, but the chance is very slim. Without SEO, you won’t know what your target audience is really searching for, and the type of content that satisfies their needs.

With most rank tracker tools, you need to sign up, add the keywords you want to track, and that’s it. Some platforms (like JaySearch) even allow you to simply add your domain, and they will show you what keywords your site ranks for.
